Born in Spain (Barcelona) in 1913

From the age of 13, he worked as a painter's apprentice while attending an art school in Barcelona.

He began drawing illustrations for magazines and advertising posters, but at the age of 18 he concentrated on painting.

1936: Participates in the Spanish Civil War as a soldier on the Popular Front side.

In 1939, with the defeat of the Popular Front, he fled to France (Montparnasse) and created works that sympathized with Bonnard and others.

1940 First solo exhibition held at a bookstore in Paris

1944: Met Picasso, a fellow countryman, and was influenced by him

1950s: Gained international acclaim, held exhibitions in various places, and also worked as a theater and costume designer.

1952: Nominated for Academy Award for Best Art Design and Best Costume Design for the film Hans Christian Andersen.

1956 Exhibited at the Venice Biennale

1957 Exhibited at the Sao Paulo Biennale Exhibition and won an award.

In 1984, he was selected to represent Spain at the Venice Biennale and is active in a variety of fields, including not only paintings but also objects, sculptures, and prints.

Passed away in 2005

Clave's works are included in collections such as the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, and the Tate Gallery in London.
